This pretty much means Obama will be the nominee, because of all of the Edwards supporters. Six lined up today alone.

I understand your premise, but it???s faulty. The main reason is that this does not change the dem. nomination situation much from where it currently stands.
Hillary Clinton will not suddenly drop out with few states remaining. She will likely contest till the convention, or until after all state primaries, in hopes of collecting more popular votes than Obama. If your rationale is that all Edwards supporters will now vote for Obama in the remaining states, that is too sweeping a presumption.
Edwards has been out of the democratic race for a long time now, and his supporters have had to vote for whomever they individually felt was the better candidate; with that being the case, the race is still this close. While Edwards supporters may be more inclined to vote Obama now, they must still make individual decisions based on personal preferences, and not just automatically align with their preferred (original) candidate.
Lastly, Edwards is not a dominant force in democratic party politics anymore. He???s a figurehead, but not a supremely influential one; he???s lost more than he???s won in his last three political endeavors, and that hasn???t exactly inspired voters to follow his wishes.
I think Gore would endorse the nominee after he/she becomes the nominee. Though Edwards was popular amongst the blue collar white workers, and thats where Clinton has big advantages. I think everyone knows Clinton will not drop out, as stubborn as she is, but Super Delegates would be influenced by this endorsement, and tilt towards the decision of uniting behind Obama.

Report Offensive CommentI agree entirely with PB. In fact, I think Edwards had to climb on board Obama's train at this point since he is clearly the nominee, for the sake of unity, and his waiting this long to endorse kind of shows that he was leaning toward Clinton, probably only because of her health care agenda. Or just hedging his bet so as to maintain a VP slot on either ticket, although that seems less likely since he would have had a better chance if he endorsed Obama about 2 weeks ago, when it was already clear he'd win.

Report Offensive CommentAriyel who do you think Gore will endorse? He was vice president for two terms with the CLINTONS. Hes just not endorsing yet because he thinks that he would have a chance of bringing the democratic party together and that he might be a nominee.

Report Offensive CommentJust because he was VP with Bill for 8 years doesn't mean he's going to endorse Hillary. Look at Bill Richardson, he went Obama.

Report Offensive CommentThis event is not insignificant. Her land slide victory in west virginia gave her an 11 delegate gain. Edwards brought 18 other superdelegates alone, completely covering that loss.

Report Offensive CommentI laugh whenever a democrat tries to pain the GOP as a party of racists, when the GOP has historically done more for civil rights in this country than any other party. Don't believe it? Challenge me.

Report Offensive CommentI am a proud Republican, and I and all of us know that America has not been totally cleansed of racism. While some of us know that racism is bad for our country, we still make our decisions largely based on race. STOP PRETENDING. Obama will be judged based on his skin color in the general election.

Report Offensive CommentHussein Obama will not be good for our country. I and many of us just don't trust the dude. These people include a big chunk of Democrats. But he's good as a candidate, as he will be the easy one to beat. McCain 08'

Report Offensive CommentDirty, I agree with your general point of fact that many will vote with race in mind, from all political parties and perspectives; but I don't agree with your implicit presumption that race will be the only, or even the main, voting criterion in the general election. Besides, don't give democrats yet another excuse to use, in case they lose in November. Voting fraud; voter intimidation; disenfranchisement of minorities. . . don't encourage the knee-jerk racism card excuse, as well.

I don't know if Edwards endorsement will mean much. I'm waiting to see who Gore endorses; that will likely be a bigger issue.
