Is Gore the real advocate for Environment? I say NO.

I am not going to argue for a particular environmental warrior, but to raise questions about former President Al Gore. He has the Nobel Peace Prize laureate for the work he's done in trying to save the earth. But what work really. He has just gathered Hollywood fat cats to fund his film and produce his documentary. Though I'm not an environmentalist, I think politicians will stop at nothing to find an issue or subject that will make them saints.

I'm sorry but Al is just another politician.

Oh no, you don't seem to know much about Al Gore nor about "An Inconvenient Truth".

If you don't agree with his teachings, then you don't agree with the findings that the reason for Global Warming is pollution, carbon dioxide and other chemicals that are even more potent.

Gore's approach to this is so simple. For example, its public awareness. He also says

1. Create a domestic emissions trading system to reduce greenhouse gases by 10 percent.

2. Promote innovative agreements for community and regional partnerships to achieve national environmental goals and standards through local strategies.

3. End government subsidies for sprawl.

He has given the issue way too much publicity and raised the awareness on the subject. He has donated money to just causes and you still think he is faking it?

I think you must find out more about Gore and his committment to save our earth so we can tell a different story to our children.

What has Gore done except presenting a documentary and making speeches. I know that he donated half of what he got from the Nobel Peace Prize to environmental groups... but that's about it, maybe you must educate me.

I stand by my view that you don't know much about Gore or his efforts. You seem to loose site of the fact that Gore is a politician/public figure and not an organization or government himself. But he supports organizations that are committed to the idea of saving our earth.

If no one acknowledges Al Gore's work both in terms of the pledges he has made around the world to fight global warming and his personal contributions to the fight, then those people are deliberately looking away.

007, help me understand why do you think Gore has not done much. I do believe you should do some personal research on this issue.

I'm sure Chaney will find something to do after office and we will follow what it is he does because he built a name for himself. I think you must think properly about what Gore has done. I think we are just fooled by lobby groups who push certain messages and campaigns by attaching a big name (like Gore) onto the issue and then everyone follows. I am an environmentalist myself, but I think we do much better work than the marketing work done by people such as Gore.

My conclusion is that you don't know much if anything about Al Gore. Unfortunately for you, I followed Gore's life before he became VP. He is arguably the best VP US has ever seen. I wish this debate progressed to being informative and knowledge sharing. So far, its been disapointing.

Gore may have even undermined the credibility regarding global warming facts through his disposition for exaggerationa and plain old politician's lying. A new report from a NOAA scientist shows that Katrina and other hurricanes are not due to global warming as Mr. Gore would like us to believe.

Gore is an opportunist. His dream of occupying the Oval office were aborted by America voters in 2000, and decided to steal other people's theories on global warming and made them his. That's perjury.

Remeber when he said Global Warming was going to increase the number of hurricanes and there verocity? Now they found Global warming is doing the oppisite. Maybe global warming isn't real. In the 70's we knew for a fact the world was cooling and we were heading for another Ice Age. Do we ever learn?

Oh my God. Global warming is recognized by every scientist worth his salt. You can never "prove" that it is caused by human activity, but then again you can't "prove" that cigarettes cause cancer. Scientific evidence and logic indicate that our screwing with the environment is having effects. Global warming does not literally mean that it will be hotter everywhere. The earth's atmosphere is a highly dynamic system. Gore has done a great deal to publicize the dangers of this phenomenon, and to call him an opportunist is appalling. What opportunities has he sought?? He's giving the money away, and he hasn't run for office, so how is he an opportunist? And who cares if his movie consisted of a slideshow? How is that relevant to his efforts or the impact of his message? Most people in our country make me sick. This kind of ignorance makes me think we're not a species worth saving.

And how is global warming "doing the opposite" of causing more and stronger hurricanes? There HAVE been more hurricanes, and even if the prediction is wrong, that doesn't mean that we aren't screwing up the earth's thermal system - i.e., the effects are almost impossible for us to predict 100% accurately, but that doesn't make his core message wrong.

Nadar

I say Nader is the real "environmentalist" especially in view in politics. The fact that Nader is not corporate corrupt and would enforce environmental laws and advocate for the best conservation principles is why he is not "in view" in the political mainstream which is in dire need of "clean-up." Gore is not a true environmentalist, and is also principle-challenged, as is seen by his willingness to steal ALL Nader's proper environmental advocacy and potential campaign success by refusing to acknowledge Nader's stands and join hands and stand against Bush in his warmongering. The truth is Gore is also a war monger, not capable of letting go of the nuclear brokering, favoring military top dog status which is obviously UNPRINCIPLED and lacking integrity as IS and WAS the claim of two party domination unchallenged and not allowed by the Gore and Kerry Democrat lies. IF the environment mattered, they would stand with Nader against the Republican corruption. Instead they prefer to stand against Nader and the truth, and democracy. Gore is NOT a true environmentalist. It is very disappointing that he expects to gain anything by hypocrisy and shortchanging the proper use of politics for best results and favored its corruption instead, and lost with that position. He should have been willing to allow the public to discover WHO IS BEST and let the majority RULE!

Elizabeth: I swear I'm only saying this to help you. Slow down, take a deep breath, and stop with the CAPS. Your run-on sentences and ardent Nader-ism make you seem like you're on drugs -- or should be. I'd love to know more about Nader, to be honest, so I'd like to hear what you have to say. But I honestly can never get through any of your posts.

Just to let you know Al Gore's 10,000 sq foot house uses more energy than President Bush's ranch, and in the neighborhood he lives in he uses 12 times more energy that the average resident! Wow he really is doing his part, not! Maybe he should practice what he preaches, if I have to listen to someone tell me that I should use less energy I would sure hope that he would not be using over 10 times more energy than I use!

Liberty: That is a borderline ad hominem attack. Does it undercut his apparent willingness to sacrifice for the environment? Yes - although we must concede that the former VP might have legitimate reasons for a higher energy usage than the doctor next door. But his advocacy for the environment undoubtedly has done a great deal of good. If his efforts are largely directly responsible for the strong "green" movement we have experienced since An Inconvenient Truth was released, that makes him a great advocate for the environment, far overshadowing any personal hypocrisy.
