Essembly is a free, non-partisan social networking site that provides tools for politically interested individuals to connect with one another, engage in constructive discussion, and organize to take action.
Essembly was created by a group of college students frustrated with the increasing dominance of money and special interests in the political process. At the same time, labels like "liberal" and "conservative", "Democrat" and "Republican", had deeply divided and polarized Americans, limiting the potential for constructive political discussion. We felt that our voices were falling on deaf ears, drowned out by deep pockets and uncompromising ideologues. Essembly emerged as an attempt to use online social networking technology to stimulate bipartisan discussion and provide tools for individuals to connect with one another for the purpose of political collaboration, organization and action. Our objective is to make the tools of the political elite available to all Americans and increase individual participation in the democratic process at every level.
Essembly is free to all and fiercely non-partisan.

I visited that site, and quite frankly this site has a much better debating method
Hadrian said 05/20, 09:51 AM
This is a better debate site -- when it works. But its a terrible site for discussion. Are you notified when people have commented on the debate here? No. Can you make alliances with people of like persuasion? Not formally. Can you signify clearly that some one is a nemesis here? Nope. Can you connect in other ways aside from debate topics Not here. You can do all this at essembly.com. Its political discussion mashed up with social networking. I like it.

What you say is all nice...but you admite this is a better debate site. And I'm sure we all joined this site to debate, unless there are some people out there who joined this site to become political sex predators. Also when promoting a site, don't take down another site. That's not cool man

Sorry to disparage this site. I amend by argument.
Elephant-Donkey sucks. essembly.com sucks. But each site has its merits. I prefer essembly -- and it certainly merits a look.
I never saw the discussion forum, just alot of poll taking and here's my two cents slots. did anyone else see anything different.

Report Offensive CommentI am working on developing a new site called digitaldebater.net. It is built in the basic format of elephant-donkey, but will correct many of the issues that ED has and will actually have some oversight. I will keep you posted so you can try it when it is finished. ED is a great site, unfortunately it is terribly neglected; if Time won't work with it ... I will.

Report Offensive CommentAriel -- check out essembly and see about integrating the debate format from here with the poll taking and commenting functions of essembly. There are folks from essembly also working on developing a new site as essembly is also neglected. And yes DD, I'm "part-owner" in terms of being a long term active participant and being invested in seing the place thrive.

Report Offensive CommentYou do sound like you have some vested interest in its success. Your "sell" got me to check it out again, as you know; but it's a little too much of a think tank for now. I like the format here better, despite the obvious flaws. This forces one to be more responsible for thoughts, and it's more formal. Essembly is not the most user-friendly site, and it has bugs with its avatar uploading, but it's basically just like a comments-only (as it works here) site.
