The world should look at the east and west coasts of America as they show it at its best!

The east and west are much more socially advanced and show the good parts of America with progressive views of politics and social issues whereas the central region is often overly conservative particularly on issues like religion, gun control and capital punishment.

that's funny. you say that the world should look at and emulate the part of America that desparately tries to be like Europe. I come from the west coast, "Granola Belt" if you will and I think it is shows in many ways America at it's worst. The Granola Belt and New England (what I assume you mean by E Coast) are at least not the idealistic places you think they are

I've lived in places where people expect Gov to solve all their problems. it doesn't work and the mindset encourages people to blame Gov for their problems and it encourages them to become more self centered

Also I have never met a more self-absorbed, snooty, or nose-in-the-air group of people than the relatively affluent in Seattle or Conn and can only assume that it would be similar in other areas w/ the similar culture for the affluent

Religion you say is apparently a very bad thing. Honestly I live in the "none-zone" and yes society can survive w/ a large religious presence, but it's not necessarily a good thing

Also these places you list also happen to have the highest capital crime rates in the nation, despite their progressive slant on gun control or capital punishment, or perhaps... because of it

A lot of people tend to have mixed opinions about the USA they either think of the friendly outgoing, slightly loud, people of florida and the tourist areas, or the buisness tycoons of ther like sof New York and Washington DC or they think about how bad America is by thinking about all of the hillbillies, rednecks and extreme right wing traditionalists.

While I would say nothing against religion (being a christian myself) the central america christianity is more extreme that the rest of America and this makes them seem a little dated, choosing the more traditional style of religion rather than a new progressive look.

By saying being should judge America more upon the east and west coasts that is to say they should see America as the outgoing friendly people on florida (East) or California (west) rather than the extreme smaller societies of the central regions such as the Armish people, the large morman populations or the conservative christians.

Really, most of the people that I met who disliked Americans or at least complained about them, said that Americans were cultureless and cared more about money than life. that's hardly representative of the central states wouldn't you agree. People hate the business tycoons and their inflated influence. People hate the fact that Americans can claim ownership of much of the world's globalization process and many of the businesses that spring up as a result. Disney is often just another American domination of a world market. I don't think anyone outside of the US even regards hillbillies and rednecks as anything more than humorous ignorant folk

really, I don't know, to me there's something to be said for a religion that doesn't make God bow down to the latest whims of society

y'know I've always found people to be friendlier in the smaller towns than the innercity, whether I was in Europe or America. I highly doubt you've ever met a Mormon, so don't tell me that they're the reason everyone hates America. Also, given the comparison between the rich bobbleheaded-bleach blond and the agrarian Amishman, I think calling America offensive because of the Amish seems a bit absurd

I'm not saying I hate Americans or their the religious, political or social extremes (usually in the central region) I am simply saying that all the major USA cities are of the two coasts and people should look at those parts of America, New York, Washington DC, Orlando, Boston, Las Vegas, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, phoenix, that???s a lot of world-class cities and people should think of America in those terms not the central cities like 'Waco', all the central region really has is Dallas, Houston and Chicago!

I have met a Mormon actually and am good friends with him, but they only make up a small portion of America and should not be seen as the average American, the westernised examples on the coasts is how America deserves to be looked upon.

Stee, Stee, Stee... You're flip-flopping like a fish on dry land. The only consistant thing you've said is that America should be judged by the Coasts. The geographic definition of which you've changed 3 times. the 1st time it was the progressive, liberal areas such as New England and the granola belt. next it changes to Florida, California and business capitol New York versus the conservative heartlands and America is bad because of the conservative heartland. Finally I don't know what the region you refer to anymore as you include Phoenix and Las Vegas, which are in the middle of the desert, as coastal cities and the port of Chicago as not a coastal city

You call mormons extremists and then say you are good friends with them

you complain that America is religious then say there is nothing wrong w/ it

I think you seriously misunderstand America. A large part of American culture is the great expanse of our country (prevelant in the central states). Salt Lake City may not be as big as New York, but it is just as much a part of American culture. The cowboy culture, which you may find backward, is still a part of America's can do attitude (a very good part of America)

definition of "none-zone": The area of the US where more people put down atheist or agnostic as their religion on the national census. ie western Washington State and NW Oregon.

There are quite a few **** here in Massachusetts, and we may be gay-friendly heathens, but we also boast the best public school system in the country, the highest per capita income, and the best SPOAHTS TEAMS EVAH!

As much as I think coastal, metropolitan, cosmopolitan cities are generally more enlightened and in some ways a better reflection of the direction this country is going, Morgan has the far better arguments here and earned my vote.

I'd like to live in a "none-zone!"

stee, sorry if i assume incorrectly, but you should atleast visit the central regions of the US before you try to make this argument. I live in Saint Louis, know of no mormons or amish, am Catholic, have very few friends who are evangelicals, and know many who adopt a very liberal political stance. you are arguing out of ignorance here and using generalizations and stereotypes to back it up. I like a lot of your points in other debates, but in some ways you seem to be just another european who likes to look down on Americans (i met many of those in my time in Europe). It's funny because usually those are the same European who preach against America's intolerance, and then use generalizations and stereoptypes such as these to back up their stance. Saint Louis is rather liberal, as is Chicago, Detroit, Denver, and Minneapolis. I doubt you know too much about the politics of these places however.

How is this guy winning all his debates? Here Morg clearly presented a stronger argument, and did anyone notice this guy blatantly insulting Americans in his debate with youngdem?

Something strange happened in my debate as well. With half an hour to go it was 5-5, then in less than fifteen minutes he picked up three votes from nowhere with no comments. 5-8 (debate was on the abolition of the monarchy.

So he's a cheat, oh well. I'm still happy w/ my performance. based on your comments I made sense and did well. Honestly I'm more concerned w/ how certain people think I did than the voting tally.
