At this stage in time, I don't believe the american public will feel it is right to vote for a black president. A candidate like John McCain, who is white, male and a "war hero", will not be bypassed in favour of a black man, as much as I want Obama to win.

While race will obviously be a big issue as it always is in America, more so now because of a Black candidate. I do not think it will be the over-riding factor. Of course there will be some people on voting day who planned to vote Obama change just because he is black.
However I believe the two biggest factors in the next election will be
a) Money
b) Party
a) Money being the key issue as I think if Obama can outspend McCain quite a lot he will win but if he fails to do so he will loose.
b) And party, I think more than usual the political parties which the two candidates stand for will be key as people will look more deeply into what the two candidates stand for rather tan being blinded on a superficial skin level; quite literally.

I think money would be more of an issue here than party. It is tradition in politics that the party/candidate that spends the most money will win, and Obama has shown he is supremely able at raising campaign funds.
However, traditionalists will still see McCain as an ideal candidate, and yes I see the fact that Obama's race could be a signal for change, but I still believe that McCain's background makes him ideal candidate for the american people.
sorry, I think race was a bigger issue between Obama and Clinton than it will be between Obama and McCain

Report Offensive CommentRace was not an issue between hillary and obama, it was made out to be by the liberal media, which twisted the stories to support their candidate obama, and hurt hillary. And i don't think it will be a factor in november, Obama is leading McCain by large margins in the polls, and is still out-raising him like 5-1.

Report Offensive CommentRace was an issue between Clinton and Obama, maybe not intentionally or maliciously, but it was. for ex. the turban photos, the "white bluecollar workers" (why not just say "bluecollar workers"), and the reference to Jesse Jackson's SC win. maybe race wasn't intended to be an issue in the Dem primary, but it was.

Report Offensive CommentWhat i mean is HILLARY didn't make race an issue, if, as you say, it was there, it was the media that took her stuff and the republican's stuff and said to their viewers: LOOK! They're bringing "IT" up.

Report Offensive Commentrace should never be an issue with any election and any thing in life. we are all the same.

Report Offensive CommentI think race will be an factor in November; whether it will be the determining factor is another matter. There can also be a difference between what people say are issues to them when questioned by pollsters and what issues are uppermost in their minds in the polling booth. For that reason, race may be something of a "sleeper" as an issue on 4th November.

Report Offensive CommentMoney is a TINY factor...it just depends on how you use it. Race will be a "sub-conscious" factor - the kind of prejudice you grow upon and that you secretly sneak into the voting booths when no one is looking.

Report Offensive CommentI want to see Obama win as well (not that I think any higher of him than I do any other god awful politician), however, I believe that once he wins the popular vote the white conspiracy that runs this country will step in and fix the electoral college (make a few "phone calls.")to make sure McCain wins. Who will then accept and promptly die of massive heart failure. Palin will become president and then everyone hang on, we're going down the log flume right towards the big splash-down in anarchy-ville. On that day I'm going on a killing spree. Pro tip: DON'T be sporting your jesus-fish on the back of your minivan that day, I wont be a happy camper.

I agree with democratdreamteam08, even though theres a huge difference in Political opinion from both parties, and a fairly large difference in cash terms. but when it comes to voting day, people will look at the 2 posters and think "do i want change? a black president?" or "do i want to stay with the traditional white war hero president?". I for one would like to see the results very soon, since this election will probably mark either stability or progression in politics.
