White males, especially those in power, have basically created most of the worlds problems. With the exception of the Egyptian slave movement, almost every failing among humanity is due to THE MAN.

This debate should certainly generate some interest...
Please keep it civil on the comment boards.
Here's the problem I have with the claim: it suggests that caucasians are inherently 'worse' than people of other ethnicities (I'm white, for the record). When American (white) racists use the fact that the US prison population is overwhelmingly black as evidence that African Americans are inherently 'worse', it pisses me off.
To ME, all it indicates is that the system is in serious need of repair, and that some damage done still runs deep. But your claim inspires the same reaction from me. Evils perpetrated by white people throughout history, weren't the result of them being WHITE, but the result of them being PEOPLE who were circumstantially ignorant/ immature/ driven to insanity via lead poisoning/ etc.
Honestly since the emancipation I think the black community has plenty of reason to blame WEB DuBois (a black man) for a very large share of their problems. Whites supported Booker T Washington, and had the black community followed suit they probably wouldn't have many of the problems they have today.

Report Offensive CommentOf course you could look at it as, to this point, white males are the ones who have risen to power through all the various political processes. Give Obama the chance and he'll be able to join the club and cause "problems" too...
GenialFascist | 07/08/08
Report Offensive Commentthis is just ridiculous. I guess it's easier to blame others for your problems than to accept any sort of responsibility for themselves. It's very cowardly.

Report Offensive CommentOn a lighter note, Helen of Troy certainly caused a few historical problems ;)

Report Offensive CommentIt's actually easy to come to this conclusion if one only has a basic understanding of world history. Unfortunately, in most school systems, even in college courses, most of the time is spent studying history from the western tradition, in which white men hold most of the power throughout. You spend very little time studying other cultures, and so the white men get blamed for everything that went wrong. Of course the paradox here, is that if you blame them for everything that went wrong when they were in power, then you have to give them credit for everything that went right as well. So i can just as easily claim that white men are responsible for all that is good in the world. Of course, I would have to be naive to really believe this, as chocalatebear must be to really believe his claim.

Report Offensive CommentAtilla the Hun wasn't white, nor were other terrible tyrants in Asia. If you look back and research more you'll see that you only based your claims on European History or American History, if you look at Asian History and Afican History, you'll notice their "root" weren't white males, that is true for even slavary.

Report Offensive CommentI think that during the primaries, alot of people got rallied up, and wanted to debate what they believe (I know I did), and they lost that fire to debate now that its been a while. Wait till you see this site next year

Report Offensive CommentAlthough the UK was the first western nation to abolish slavery, when the US did it, we pretty much abolished slavery around the world (there are a few unfortunate exceptions). Blaming the world's ills on white males is beyond ignorant. As JFK said, "A rising tide raises all ships." The US has, thanks to the political/economic system given to us by those DWEMs who were our founding fathers, has improved the standard of living worldwide. ChocolateBearFactory has bought into the "blame America first" cosmology. My guess is that ChocoBeFact is a fairly recent college grad. Let's see if, in subsequent arguments, CBF can support the initial claims.

Report Offensive CommentWhy doe's everything have to be about peoples race? It's the person inside that makes the choices, and the colour of your skin doen't effect this! =D
chantie08 | 07/11/08
Report Offensive CommentChantie, Are you really British or just being presumptuous? You spell "colour" with a "u," but your grammar and punctuation are abysmally American. Not that it matters, really, given the vacuousness of your comment.

Report Offensive CommentI agree with Fry's line of reasoning that it wasn't because white males were white, but because they were human. Essentially it is because white males just so happened to have more power than say black males or white women that they ended up creating mistakes.

Report Offensive CommentI honestly don't see me winning this thing. Still, I found it very humorous.

Report Offensive CommentYeah, it's been a laugh riot. Here's another one: A pirate walks into a bar with a peg leg, a parrot on his shoulder, and a steering wheel on his pants. The bartender says, "Hey, you've got a steering wheel on your pants." The pirate says, "Arrrr, I know. It's driving me nuts."

If I'd seen your rookie cap debate I probably would have gone for that one instead - let the free market sort these owners out. They'll soon find that patience is a virtue. The next Derek Anderson is sitting on someone's bench, while the next Ryan Leaf is cruising around in a Bentley...
