It's just a matter of time. 62% of Americans agree with off-shore exploration and drilling. Reid and Durbin are already onboard for drilling and other Dem's are backing away from Obama on his energy policies. The President came out and hammered for drilling and the barrel price dropped $10 in two days. The Russians have proven that you can have product in the market within four months of starting to drill.
Obama is going to read the writting on the wall, see that this is a popular initiative with the public, that he's losing his party's backing and... drum-roll... FLIP-FLOP...
McCain will highlight Obama's inconsistancy (as he should), BO will offend his green base and will finally and conclusively reveal that he's a "politics as usual" candidate and not an almighty agent of CHANGE.

You're basic arguement is that Obama or any politician would flip flop on any positions because the majority of americans agree with offshore drilling ( as i believe all politicians should do because they are supposed to represent us but that's in a different debate)anyway i'm sure u've heard this a billion times but Barack Obama was against the war from the beginning. Even when close to 75% of americans agreed and basically supported it. This shows that he doesn't just change his stances based on public opinion and in the end he paid off because of his stances.
Then you say that McCain would highlight Obama's INCONSISTANCY?? He's the KING of inconsistancy! He says we should do offshore drilling and at the same time work toward fighting global warming even though they would send millions of tons of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. and lets not forget about all his flip flopping on immigration, Bush's tax cuts etc.
sorry i sidetracked but anywayz they main point is that Obama hasn't changed his stances because of public opinion in the past and he won't do it again.

When pressed on energy policy in the upcoming debates BO will yield on oil drilling.
In 04, 05, 06, 07 he vehemently opposed the war and promised quick withdrawal if elected. Now ??? he???ll refine his position after meeting with commanders. Last year he said he???d accept public financing, this year he says he won???t. He said that he opposed NAFTA from the beginning then he said that he???d vote to expand NAFTA. He supported the D.C. gun ban then praised the Supreme???s for overruling it. In 04 he said it was time to end the Cuba embargo, in 07 he said it is an important enticement for change. In January he called unions ???special interests??? today he welcomes their support. He told college students he supported legalizing pot ??? in debates he opposed legalizing pot. He said he could never turn his back on Rev. Wright ??? then he said he wanted nothing to do with Rev. Wright.
This guy is the biggest stuffed-shirt puppet to ever stand in front of a flag and shout "Vote for me." He???s completely directed by a staff that sticks a finger in the air and then tells him what to say. Our American Idol Presidential candidate. When Simon sez that oil drilling is a good thing ??? so will BO.

you're just echoing the Mccain attacks on the "refining" his policy thing. everyone blew that way out of proportion he is still going to withdraw out of Iraq. I never said Obama has never flip flopped, i only said he won't flip flop on this issue because he can use it so well for his position.
first, he can attack mccain for being close to the president and second he can distance himself from the president. y would he want to look like he is anything like the current president when he spends hours destroying the president.
You also have to consider that this is a "hot" topic. A lot of ppl are talking about it. It's in the spotlight, and since he and mccain are so different, as he wants you to believe, he would never choose to side by mccain and let down all his supporters especially his online base.
you act like mccain is the god of politicians and like he has never flip flopped in his political history. don't kid yourself.
Every politician flip flops but never on such a big issue especially if the president supports offshore drilling, he has to oppose it to keep up with the moto of "change".

Hey Mark, this is an argument over a prediciton. That's tuff. I stand by my assertion... BO will flip and in some lukewarm fashion give the impression that he'll consider drilling.
With the President's negatives, the war, the economy, etc. Barry should be W-A-Y ahead in the polls... he's not. It's pretty neck-n-neck with the plus/minus factored...
Once we clear the conventions Barry'll be struggling to garner every vote... Domestic oil production is and will remain a popular inititive with the public... BO has a track record of flipping to whatever postion fits the situation... hence he'll eventually go for drilling... Thank's for the exchange, take care...

With all due respect, I disagree. i still strongly believe that BO will NOT change his position because it works to his benefit if he stays against it. Reiterating my past points:
1. His stance against it helps distance himself from a disliked president. (everyone loves a rebel)
2. His stance allows him to group Mccain and the president together and call Mccain's presidency a "third term of George Bush".
3. It helps him argue that Mccain is inconsistant when it comes to fighting global warming and taking care of our economy.
all in all it gives Obama more firepower. thanks for the debate.
I really don't think we can really say much about Obama's original stance on the war. After all his stance didn't become important until he ran for national office, which was after it was politically inviting to be anti-war, before that point in time he can say he believed whatever and there's no way to check it to see if he's telling the truth or just saying it cuz it sounds good.

Report Offensive CommentI have yet to see Obama "flip-flop" on an issue. What I have seen him do is make a plan, and adjust it based on what is going on in the world. McCain sticks to his guns, which will not work. The war is changing, the economy is changing. The same old Republican dance is not going to work. I am sick and tired of McCain going to campaign and do nothing but bad-mouth Obama. He needs to wake up and get with the times if McCain has any hope.

Report Offensive CommentMcSame really doesnt wanna point out other peoples policies flaws, as he has already tried only to realize that later on, people realize he has done the same. Honestly its not that bad if someone goes "Alright, the American public wants this, well, we will see what we can do."They serve the peoples intrests. I do not see it so much as flip-flopping, and more like changing your opinion based on new information. Though I, for one, am against offshore drilling. Oil companies have tons of land leased already with oil. Let'em dig there first.

Report Offensive CommentPlus y would obama choose to be closer to Mccain and President Bush on the Issue?? by staying against offshore drilling it works to his benefit because he can use it to make mccain and bush more alike and say that mccain will only bring "a third term of president Bush". It just doesn't make sense environmentally, economically, and politically for Obama and the nation.
