1. Palin made Republicans popular. People say: "Real change with a real woman". But Vice-president isn't the President. For Example, Al Gore symbolically signed the Kyoto protocol, but the protocol was never ratified. Thus, even if Palin is an ideal reformer, you must look first at the future president and Secretary of state and understand, whether Palin has a possibility to change something.
2. Palin isn't an ideal. As you see, she wants to use oil as long as possible; in her opinion oil is more important, than white bears and, I'm sure, nature is nothing for her. She doesn't understand, that the more oil she uses, the more carbon dioxide is in air, the hotter the climate becomes, the more hurricanes appear (just like Gustav and Ike), the more illnesses in the world develop. Permafrost already started thawing because of Palin&Co.'s produce of carbon dioxide, and the permafrost contains two times more carbon dioxide, than the contemporary athmosphere. Just try to understand: if everyone stopped emitting carbon dioxide right now and forever, global warming would continue and accelerate. It's necessary not just stop polluting, but also start cleaning actively. Stop Elephant's car!
Republican have been winning presidential elections for the last forty years because they are masters at instilling fear in the electorate. From the Southern strategy which pit poor whites against poor blacks, to Nixon tough on crime crusade (and who was committing all the crime?), to Regan's campaign again the great Red menace and now to the never ending war on teror being fought again everyone expect the terrorists who attacked us. McCain and Republicans were in charge on 9/11/2001, they were warned, they blew it and for the second election in a row want Americans to believe that only Republicans can protect America. What a sorry situation. Franklin Roosevelt said the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. McCain and the Republicans would have us believe the only thing we have to fear is not being afraid.

Report Offensive CommentMore than Palin this argument should be that the Republicans have no real answers for what faces this country. As scary as Palin assuming the Presidency is, what should be focused on is McCain selling out what he truly believes.

Report Offensive CommentShe's ganna get ate up in the debates, this is why i think the republicans have something up their sleves maybe a little dirt on a candidate theyve been saving, doesnet make since to put a newbie against biden(25 years expirience).

Report Offensive CommentHow is this already 9-2 after just the opening argument (not the counterargument)? Sad.

Report Offensive CommentThe people who are checking out Sarah Palin really need to investigate what creationism is. Do we want this taught in our schools? There already is a forum for this.....CHURCH!! Please check out the article on the Creationists Museum in Kentucky at: http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/visual_arts/article1848419.ece

Report Offensive Commentthis topic is pretty dumb. Wikiwide's title implies that the republicans or for that matter ANY political party doesn't have a reason to win the election! of course they do! and they always will! they have beliefs and when they get elected they will try to get their beliefs into law! i find the title to be the largest flaw in his argument. I don't understand why he's tlaking about sarah palin either? we're talking about republicans wanting or not wanting to win the presidency. Not just palin. plus why is everyone voting when the second debater hasn't responded yet?
Mark | 09/11/08
Report Offensive CommentBecause this site is being invaded by a wave of far-left-wing kooks, or else some suspicious voting if going on again. Click on "In Progress" and scroll through how many resolutions are "conservative." Then check on the debate vote tallies, particularly those without even so much as a counterargument yet. Just when I thought I might get back into actual debates here. Nah.

Report Offensive CommentWikiwide took a ludicrous topic and made it worse by providing an irrelevant argument. This is purely an attack on Palin, and has nothing to do with Republican "reasons" for winning the election. Also, Mark is right. Where is the second debator?

Report Offensive CommentThere is a difference being elected versus selected. If Palin is ready to be commander in chief why didn't she run for it like all the others. The public would have been able to get to know her and she wouldn't look so uncomfortable without her maverick support during a sit down t.v. special. This way McCain picks his running mate scares me. It shows the Republicans will do anything, say anything, and dismiss anything to get elected. What happened to the MCCain who tells it like it is. Another thing McCain wants sit downs with Obama why?? because of the crowds Obama gets. That's a no-brainer.

Report Offensive CommentUltimately, the Republican delegates selected her when they cast their votes for her. If I recall (I could be wrong about this) they picked her by unanimous acclamation. She has had an 80%+ approval rating among Alaskans who are very Libertarian/Independent-minded people. Furthermore, her popularity among the American people at large is not disputed. She's still in the news a great deal every day and it's two weeks after the convention. The people who have a problem with her are a very vocal minority, many of whom have extreme positions about women (i.e., that they can't have good lives if they have children). <<<shudder>>> Those are the scary people, in my view. Palin is mainstream.
gocatholic | 09/12/08
Report Offensive CommentIn regard to the crowds Obama gets, I know that in at least two cases the Obama campaign hired popular bands to draw in the crowds. That was the case in Berlin. Providing free entertainment is akin to buying votes. Now, McCain is the one drawing in the big crowds and it's apparently mostly due to Palin, not because of free entertainment.

Report Offensive Commenti agree its better than biden is not vp material with obamas change comes nothing paulin actually provides a good base and standard for our government

Report Offensive CommentPalin is mainstream??? You can't be serious. Palin is mainstream redneck. The moosehunting, anti-environmental stances, and love affair with oil remind me so much of the rednecks I lived with in Texas my entire life. Additionally, she believes in creationism, and that it should be tought in schools as a viable alternative to evolution. She also believes that it is God's will that we invaded Iraq...*by the way, that was Bush/Cheney's will...NOT God's. I would say that any number of the above mentioned are not mainstream.
Press12 | 09/12/08
Report Offensive Comment@ Gocatholic - go to factcheck.org for a debunking of the false claim that Obama's campaign hired bands to draw crowds. On the contrary, the bands actually benefited from Obama's popularity.

Report Offensive CommentI'm a Hillary Clinton-Holdout. I am so outraged that I decided to shoot myself in the foot and vote for McCain - until he chose Palin. I grew up in that ultra-right-wing family. Conservatives love the Margaret Thatchers and the Pyllis Schlaflys. And those conservative guys are salivating in their fantasies about a pit bull wearing lipstick. Even a long-time friend who is lesbian, flipped her hormones when she saw Palin in her red, white and blue bikini holding a big gun. Reason and logic have mostly flown out the window. / I was seduced by Obama's speech before the Democratic convention and e-asked him to run, suggesting he could be the "second coming". But I came to my senses early and escaped the Obamacult. What do I do now? Guess I'll take the lesser of 2 evils and vote for Charismaman. //

Report Offensive CommentTHIS SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH PALIN! the title implies that the republicans have no reason to win the presidency?!?!?!??! they don't? even though they don't have any control over the House and Senate?i think they do! all political parties have a reason to win any election. to control the country and promote their ideals.

Report Offensive CommentObama is not the "second coming," he's an intelligent, thoughtful and learned man. The fact that he doesn't represent ignorant (and proud of their ignorance!) people is an inexplicable detriment to him. So sad, the state of our nation.
