Everyone hates the Jesus Freaks knocking on your door at 9am on a Saturday or Sunday when you're trying to sleep off last night's binge of intoxication and trying to share their "Word" or "Book of Words" with you. I like the enthusiasm, but...
But now the godless heathens on the left have found something to worship that also requires proselytising and converting those who have not seen the light. Just like the Jesus Freaks they KNOW that they are right and therefore everyone else is wrong and they're all ready to shout it from the mountaintops.
Obama and Jesus, can you both put your followers on a leash please?

What are you talking about? Obama supporters don't "worship" their candidate; they enthusiastically support his candidacy.
To address your "proselytizing" - isn't that what political parties do? Isn't there a pretty good balance of people on both sides, including/especially on the fringe who "know" that they're right? Are the Obama Worshippers you're talking about people you know? Are they specific people you've seen on the news?
I generally don't get people on my doorstep; my criteria for "Jesus Freak" is believing in the Bible literally, constantly bringing religion into social situations, etc.
As a likely Obama voter with a wide assortment of friends and associations, it's more often that I hear a likely McCain supporter interject politics into mixed social company than an Obama supporter, and the tone is usually - "I can't believe how many people just don't GET it! I can't believe how many ignoramuses there are out there!" Do you experience this sort of thing more with Obama supporters?

You're Right, I do need to make it clear that, just like with average Christians and Jesus Freaks, there is a difference between those who support enthusiastically and those who scream, yell, use perjoratives, and believe everyone who disagrees with them is an idiot. I'm seeing too much of this lately. Some examples from this site:
"Do you Facists remember that your beloved ignorant President was a one term governor?"
"He is merely a man with an IQ lower than Sarah Palins baby"
"The Republicans are backed by brainless hicks, bible mongers, and narrow-minded jerks."
"The only reason McCain is seeing a boost in the polls is because we live in the UNITED STATES OF AMNESIA!People see a pretty face and they forget about everything."
And my personal favorite:
"You have no right to participate in the debates on this site. Go somewhere else."
That's just this site. How does this lead to free and open debate?
For the people who support Obama rationally and enthusiastically, that's good. An energetic populace is good for a democracy. However, my point here is that those who make comments like those above hurt the cause as much as religious bigots hurt Christianity.

You're giving me a laundry list of disembodied, unattributed quotes that you've deemed... inappropriate? Ill-reasoned? Inflammatory?
Perhaps the authors were simply using inflammatory language in hopes of challenging a certain type of person, whom they consider unreasonable (see further explanation below, 5th comment).
So, it looks like you're defining an "Obama Worshipper" as someone who conveys their support in an irrational manner. So what's the measuring stick for what's rational? Each 'side' thinks that the other side is irrational -- ironically, it's the one thing we all agree on!
This is a site for political discourse, and I don't mind reading things here that I might consider ill-reasoned because this is the place for it. When someone sets up shop to sell Jesus on an NFL gameday thread, THAT is a Jesus Freak, and honestly, I don't see that behavior from Obama supporters.*
*Ron Paul supporters were/are the kings of that, but I digress.

Well-played sir. However, if you had taken the time to look up those arguments on this site (sorry that the 1200char. limit doesn't allow us to explore citations better) you'd see what I meant.
I know that irrationality exists on both sides, I don't think that should be an excuse.
The thing is, I am really impressed by Obama. I do consider it my duty to be informed about issues in the election so sometimes I agree with him and sometimes I don't, and because of how the polls have just changed so dramatically I really wanted this to come out as advice to those who are a little over-enthusiastic...if you really care about helping your candidate win, which I am sure you all do, you'll tone down the aggressiveness in your rhetoric so that you can actually convince some of the few people, myself included, who haven't yet made up their mind.
However, Fry I Am, you definitely don't fall in that category and you actually helped calm me down. I thank you and I am happy to give you this win.
I love Barack Obama because I have a son and I think the world will be better if he is president! Sorry if my support pisses you off, but I will try everything I can to make his future better just like you should for your future.

Report Offensive CommentHUH...This is the probably one of the dumbest challenges I've seen yet. Nobody worships him. It's called enthusiasim. They share his views. They believe in his vision and they belive he could put us on the right path for the 21st century. No one is claiming his tears cure cancer. Sorry you don't have a candidate you feel this way about.

Report Offensive CommentWhile I'm on the subject, I used wording in the topic that I thought would be inflammatory because I actually wanted to debate against one of the people making those kinds of comments so I guess I should have challenged one of them directly. That Fry I Am, that Fry I am...he seems like a reasonable guy.

Report Offensive Comment"You have no right to participate in the debates on this site. Go somewhere else." - That has more to do with being an A55HOLE than an Obama supporter!

Report Offensive CommentYeah, needless to say the opponent won the "no right to debate" debate.

Report Offensive Commentit means i have an interest in his future and him not going to war and being killed. i worry about that and i think McCain only knows one way to run a country, and that is a country in war.
