Biden isn't a lock with Catholics

With the selection of Joe Biden as Barack Obama's running mate, Catholics Democrats worry: Can one of their own ever again win national office? Read Amy Sullivan's piece on Catholics and Biden here: http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1840965,00.html

Religious communities will generally tend not to support one of their own who does not adhere to their mainstream values. The question then becomes, can you be both a Catholic and a Democrat and be accepted by both? The answer seems to be that you are going to have to be one hell of a politician to do that and still be liked by your constituency. Voters don't like contradictions, neither do men of religion. Politicians thrive on them. Biden either needs to really read up on his scripture or stay the hell out of theological debates. He needs to reaffirm the values of American Catholics insofar as he agrees with them, and not allow anyone to put him on the defensive when it comes to the sincerity of his religious views.

2 months remaining for the next argument...

Biden handles his religion like all politicians should. His Faith is his. It's not yours, it's not everyone elses. It's his. He practices Catholocism. Is his religion correct? To him it is. The point is unless you have a hand written note for the big guy himself, no one can say who's religion is the right one. Maybe it's the Jew or the Seikh or the Muslims. Maybe it's the mormons.....no, no, it's definitely not the mormons. Maybe it's all of them and it just all a path to the same place. Faith is different than fact. Biden is the personification of this.
