I watched the debate numerous times and I can hnestly tell you that I feel that Obama won this debate. Because he never harped on the same ole same ole as McCain. We need change for our economy, the families of the troops wants them home, the middle class is struggling and losing homes to foreclosures, and if you recall the middle class was never mentioned by McCain. The middle class is the ones who makes up the mass population of this country. So why is he not trying to help us because he is rich like Bush and wants to pad his pocket even more. So I say No To McCain and Yes to Obama!!! We need a Change from the Same Ole Same Ole!!!!!!!

McCain won the debate. His tired jokes went over well, and he didn't faint on stage - he retained consciousness and he didn't humiliate himself; most of us shook off the embarrassing delivery of the bears' paternity joke, or the senile trailing off while he recounted his witnessing of US military history.

About the $700 billion dollar?? I am honestly proud that the senate and congress did not pass this bill. What about you? I feel that those crooks on Wall Street ought to give back to the country a percentage of their millions of dollars. It is good that McCain is against the bailout but if it wasn't for the man who he voted with 92% of the time then this economy would not be in the shape that it is in now. Bush continues to spend millions of our tax dollars on a war that was not legite in the first place. The Republicians can pretty cosider themselves a FAILURE this election year!!! Those millions of tax dollars is NOT helping our troops it is helping Bush achieve his personal agenda and that is SCREW AMERICA!!!!!!! Bush has also made his millions on oil companies the same as Mac Cain plans to do. Do we the American People want another four years of the last eight?? I SAY NO MORE BUSH AND NO TO MCCAIN!!!!!!!
Elect Obama President Of The United States!!!!
Just because I don't like his jokes or tactics, that doesn't mean they weren't effective.

Report Offensive CommentIam'll do fine, he's already shown the ability to critique independant of his own persuasions, and Iam doesn't duck and run halfway thru his debates

Report Offensive CommentI was tired of both comparing "Wall Street" to "Main Street" in the first half. Once, okay. But six times between them? And McCain used the "wasn't voted Miss Congeniality" line two or three times. Obama said corporations at least four times in a matter of eight minutes. This debate was boring, but McCain won. Nothing too exciting, he was supposed to win. Obama didn't push, but he didn't bomb, either. The VP debate should be fun, and the second debate will be the one we watch in hopes of something actually happening.

Report Offensive CommentThe entire debate was a nightmare. The purpose of a debate is to display a formal method of interactive and position representational argument, ey all I saw after 15 minutes was more campaigning, and less coverage of the true issues. I've never seen a debate where one individual showed as much contempt for his opponent as McCain dsiplayed toward Obama. You don't have to like your opponent, nor agree with him/her at any time, but not acknowledging your opponent, making eye contact, etc, is a form of disrespect I would never have expected of McCain. The one thing I found really odd, considering how much blogging it caused in 2007 pertaining to Obama, was that McCain was not wearing a Flap oin during the presidential debate. What the heck is up with that, especially after all the flack last year.

Report Offensive CommentObama won--hands down. Polls taken afterwards show a close tie. McCain NEEDED, and SHOULD have excelled at this debate about foreign policy--supposedly his strong suit. I saw none of that. I like how Obama reminded McCain that not only did the war in Iraq start in 2003, not 2007, but also that the initial intent of the war was to fight terrorists. Spot on, Barack! Plus, Sen. McCain was very rude to Obama and to Lehrer, not letting either of them continue on with the debate when McCain went into a tantrum.

Report Offensive Commentkennedy and nixon never talked to each other during their debates. they talked into the camera the whole time, to the voters. only recently has the public demanded a more person level debate and it was actually quite annoying that jim leher kept trying to get them to talk to eachother the whole time.

Report Offensive CommentGo ahead and submit another argument; I'm more than prepared to argue for McCain. One interesting piece of analysis I recall hearing (from cable pundits/analysts) in the wake of the debate was the suggestion that McCain's repeatedly referring to Obama as being naive or inexperienced worked well in his favor, and Obama's frequent statements that, "John is right," worked against him. Personally, I expected Barack to beat McCain decisively, and he didn't.
IamFry | 09/29/08
Report Offensive CommentMcCain being rude to Lehrer didn't hurt his perceived performance, and McCain's (albeit odd, rude, and awkward) refusal to look at Obama during the debate only hurt him in the eyes of people who are already likely Obama voters.
IamFry | 09/29/08
Report Offensive CommentIamFry, I do see the points you've made. However, if you look at the context of Obama's "John is right" comments, they are only about one or two specific issues, and unless I'm mistaken, they pertained to the war. Is it too terrible to have common ground on one issue as presidential candidates?? I really don't think so. Obama saying that further enforced the idea that he really does listen to other people's opinions and actually analyzes what they're saying. You certainly could not say the same of McCain that night.

Couldn't you have at least allowed someone to face off that had more to add to the debate than you have Fry? I can vote for neither of you because you both clash right in the middle, neither having a strong or valid argument.
