The trade deficit exists between the US and China because we buy great amounts of cheap products from them. They, in turn by very little from US. Do they drive Ford or Chevy? No. Do their children play with products labeled "Made in USA"? No. So how do we stop companies from buying their products to resell to the american consumer? Place a tariff on all chinese products shipped from them.

I see what your saying and ill comment on it as well as ask a question.
First, I will comment.
Labor is cheap in China, so products are cheap. We buy them. We make profit. China has no need to buy our products, theyre too overpriced as well.
And...
Why stop companies from buying from China? This lowers our economy and whatever products we buy from them will be sold for a lot more due to your proposed tariff.
I dont know about you, but I do not want to pay more for my products.
Eaglevision said 02/25, 12:58 AM
Labor IS cheap in China, but its also cheap in Mexico and most Central American countries. And yet, they buy our products. That's right. Mexicans and central americans buy american products. People in mexico drive american made chevys and fords.
On your remark that a cease from companies buying from China would hurt our economy.... Well, we are in a recession anyway, so its not like buying from China for the last 10 years or so was helping.
Secondly, with the tariff, our own products will be able to compete fairly with theirs thereby securing jobs domestically. Buying from them is only boosting their economy. (oh and the fact that labor is cheap in China while the Yuan gains on the dollar; lets me know that the chinese government is getting fatter, while the chinese people are getting paid low wages......do you want to support oppression? not me)
I'm for keeping American products competitive and not giving advantage to China. If we have to have products cheaply made, wouldnt using countries on our borders be much better than China?

First off, Id like to say that its not neccessarily the Yeun gaining on the US. its the US thats sinking. The fact is, our economy is flailing and higher prices wont do much better.
In Mexico, the pay is still more then in China and free trade agreements with them are different. Look those up...
Anywho, in Mexico, the economy is actually not doing that bad (fact). Its quite similar to US, only that it is smaller. The rich get benefits, the poor dont. Just like here.
Even though weve been trading freely with China for the past decade or two, it hasnt hurt us.
Plain and simple, and getting back to the original argument, putting a tarriff on products imported from China would only do what Britian did to America. Much higher prices in Britian on the same products imported from US. Just look on amazon.
Im telling you. A tariff on trade with China would only do bad to US.
MUCH higher prices.
Less products available.
Trading with S. America is not the same as with China.
Eaglevision said 02/26, 07:27 PM
Okay, so I would like to point out how you are flipping even on your own argument. First you write that the yuan isnt gaining on the dollar merely the dollar slipping, right? Then you say that trading with China for the past decade hasnt hurt our economy. Anyone else see the conflict there?
Second, you state that they have been trading "freely" with us. That is such a horrendous lie. They dont buy our products. So how can it be a free trade? We just buy there's. Ask a professional sometime, they'll clue you in.
Thirdly, you say that the british-american trade tariff caused higher prices on the same products.I would respond with "and how valuable is the british pound now?" They have jobs in britain because their tariff saved jobs from coming to the states. It worked for them, why not us? I dont know where you are from, Im an american citizen, and I would pay an extra on any electronic or other device if I knew that my family could keep their jobs. Simple economics. The more we outsource jobs, the more our economy goes south.
I am well versed on free trade with Mexico, but they are not trying to get powerful, in fact they want to live here. Lets keep jobs here and prosper!

First, it is NOT the trade with China that is hurting our economy. Main reason is Iraq War/Just the flow of things, market changes....
And youre a flippin dumbass man. trading freely means FREE TRADE. No tarrifs. Free trade, to fill you in is an agreement between countries to inport/export without tarrifs. We buy their stuff for dead cheap. Mark it up 500% or so (and yes, that $.99 toy costs about 2 cents); here and make a profit. Putting a tarrif on that means we pay more for that ****.
How the hell do you think that putting a tarrif on products will help? It means we have to sell our own profucts, which are much more expensive, so less people buy, **** happens, etc. Trading with our Southern neighbors doesnt compare at all to China.
We trade with them as it is, so increasing that trade would be chaotic. I mean, GOD man. do you have any idea how much we import from China?! And you want a tarriff? WE MAKE MONEY OFF IT!!!
Clarify- Im US born. And they do have jobs in Britian but they do have problems there but their pound is worth A LOT more. I know someone who sold their house there, waited to exchange the money here, AND BOOM. huge profit. Nearly 85% more. Dont respond to this.
Personally, I dont know why we cant just make those things in Mexico instead of China. Wouldnt building more factories down there keep more people from crossing the border?

Report Offensive CommentIts also a well known fact that China's continued industrial revolution is emitting toxic smoke into the ozone layer. Scientists have also concluded that a great deal of factory smog travels to the Western Coast of california constantly. So much for the next superpower allying with US.

Report Offensive CommentComing from someone who is very closely connected to China and Chinese Americans, let me say that the currency is not really the Yuan (Yuan means any kind of dollar in Mandarin Chinese), it's the RenMinBi (RMB, the people's currency). Just for future reference. Why would people buy American made cars when Japanese ones are so obviously superior? I say this not to be unpatriotic but to point out how terribly bad our corporations have become at creating a decent machine.
