what do you think about the war?

i dont think we should have one

I think we do have one. In fact I think we have several. We have a resurgent cold war against Russia and its shadowy government which seems to be turning into Soviet Russia 2: electric boogaloo. I think we have China dumping crappy made poisons on us and laughing. I think Iran is developing nuclear weapons and noone seems to give a care because we've dumped all our time and money and credibility in Iraq. I think that we have an ideological war of far left liberals, brain dead "neocons", and the rest of us who want to employ common sense. I think our politicians are in a silent war against us, as they don't care what the common man or woman things, they just want our vote, and their own cushy seat of power in perpetuity.

Now if you want to talk about "the war" as in Iraq? At this moment I think the war in Iraq is destroying our economy as we borrow and borrow and borrow to pay for it, sinking us so far into debt its disgusting. Conceptually I used to think that establishing a democracy in the middle east might be useful to stem the rise of wahhabist Islam there. Now I believe that democracy can never succeed in Islamic theocratic states, and to try to change that is folly.

bush is putting us in debt
he doesnt care about the american people'
your argument is really good\
its just what was on my mind

Well I dont ascribe to Bush the feelings and characteristics of some on the left who call him a "dumb monkey" or an "evil genius" or a "puppet on the hand of rove/cheney" I think he feels this is whats best for the country but he is absolutely wrong. The problem is he was elected on the premise he would enact conservative values, and in reality he has done nothing of it. I hope he goes quietly into retirement and avoids any aspect of any future administration. If he does so its one of the very few things hes done right *unlike clinton and carter*

8 months remaining for the next argument...

Pattyt, Why think that your intentions are good, I find your arguements terrible. On this site you have to have more to an arguement than a one liner and an opinion. Don't worry about people's feelings being hurt, just say how you feel and give evidense to back it up.

Didn't you just start another anti-war debate? You just started two of the same debates.

War will and have and always will be part of our civilization. It's what makes us human. It's one of those topic of discussion that never ends.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight; nothing he cares about more than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. Peace is an idealistic concept. There will and has never been peace (or whirled peas) throughout the world. It doesn't hurt to pray for it, but to expect it, no. There will never be a time the world want to sit around the table with us, hold hands and sing Kum-ba-yah. ROTP

What I mean by the russia comment: Look at the behavior and actions of Vladimir Putin. Putin is an ex kgb, which to be honest we can forget about "ex", who for all intensive purposes fixed the election and hand picked his successor. Now he is a part of the new regime as a de facto leader. The only thing missing from modern russia is a 5 year plan and opening each day with "internationale." They are practically openly hostile to U.S. interests and have been the technological backers of Iran's Uranium Enrichment program. So for all intensive purposes they're the new Soviet Union without satellite states and a hammer and sickle.

OK then... Pattyt, you need to at least try to prove a point. you need to put yourself out there say what you feel with more elaboration. shove your opinion in your opponent's face! if you just sort of lean back like you have been, you won't be taken as a serious debater. you will sort of be thought of as some what of a loser, which i guess could also be caused by losing tons of debates. which is what's going to happen if you don't prove your point! you've got a maximum of 1,200 characters, use them all! try typing as much as you can! sometimes, your opinion will just come out naturally if you have to keep forcing yourself to write things. and yes, i am the one you're debating with about "Under God" being in the pledge. good luck! - Hannah
