I recently decided who I think would best represent the Democratic Party, and I think that candidate is U.S. Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois. The arguments against Obama are, for the most part, trivial in nature.
There are people that don't want him in office because of his alleged "Muslim" background.
First, Obama is Christian; Church of Christ to be exact. Second, his previous religious affiliation should have no bearing on his role as a politician. Third, just because his name isn't Ron, George or Bill does not make him less qualified.
The only semi-legitimate reason people are concerned about is Obama's lack of experience in Washington. My argument to that would be experience has not always been a proven asset to those in office, hence the current administration.

I didn't hear one thing in there about why you think he SHOULD be president. Can you think of one...just one thing?
I have a hard time supporting Obama due to his Marxist viewpoints that the wealthy should shoulder the burden of social welfare programs. While selflessness is a wonderful character trait to have, forced redistribution of wealth is not the answer. Utopian philantropy is a nice idea, but very naive (who is honestly going to go to school for 8-12 years to become a surgeon just because its the right thing to do?). I also do not support his massive cutback plans for military defense. Obama seems to have the naive view that we can all join hands and love each other; nice, but not realistic. Pattyt, your arguments thus far are only addressing the most trivial aspects of the debate.

Report Offensive CommentI agree with both of you, so I'm not even going to vote. You need to include both reasons for and aginst your opinion and why you agree/disagree with them in order to sound like you have a decent grasp on the concept. Personally though, I like Obama a lot. I think he would make a wonderful president. He has experienced tough times in his life, growing up with a single mom and all, while Clinton has always had a pretty nice life, even before she married Bill. I feel that this will help him understand how the people in America feel when they are going through a rough patch in their lives during his presidency, while Hilary will only be able to imagine the pain they are experiencing every day. Thanks for reading my opinion. :]

Report Offensive CommentI think Obama is the worst of the three candidates left that could possibly be president. Obama's religious views are of no concern of mine, on that point I agree with PattyT. But I also agree with Ariyel that Obama is living in an ideal world of dreams. He wants to fix every problem that the U.S. has ever faced. The problem with that is that none of his solutions are realistic. None of them can actually be done. Like getting the troops out of Iraq in 16 months. This timeline is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. Another reasons that hasn't really been touched on yet in this debate of the comments his not Obama's lack of time in office, it is lack of doing anything in office. He has been a senator for 2 terms yet has only helped write ONE bill. Clinton has written 4 and helped write another 6. It seems to me like Obama has made a lot of promises that he has no way to back up. The best way to see what someone will do is to see what they have done. Obama has done virtually nothing as a senator, therefore, he will most likely do virtually nothing as a president. If he tries, his lack of experience will make him fall short of almost any goal he sets.

Report Offensive CommentShrek... that was well said. The democratic candidates this year are some of the worst options this country has seen in my lifetime. After completing Hillary: The Movie, Citizens Untied has set their sights on Obama. Hillary: The Movie was a great production and I'm sure that Barack: the Movie will be equally fascinating. After watching Hillary: The Movie I am scared to have Clinton be our 44th president.

Report Offensive CommentBy the way... acording to Hillary: the movie most of the bills Clinton wrote and helped write were ridiculous stuff that seems to more of a waste of time than anything. I cant remember what they were off the top of my head though.

Help me pattyt. I want to vote for you! I keep hearing the name of Ronald Reagan mentioned in the press, as if to imply his foreign policy experience was divine, his economics policies were righteous and his integrity untouched by the sinful nature man is cursed with. Ronald Reagan made people proud to be and American! We believed in him and invested in our own future.
