I am actually a giants fan but based on what I've seen from them in the pre-season I'm not expecting a penate run.

To the best of your knowledge in the history of baseball, have there been seasons that were unexpected in nature?
yngster said 03/30, 08:30 PM
Yeah of course there have been but what facts are there to sugest that this will be one of those types of seasons. The Giants have some young talent and some speed but they commited 40 errors during spring training, had a record of 7-22-1 and two of their middle infielders are on the DL. One of them just had surgery. Bonds is gone. They are going to have to make up for the loss of power in the lineup by manufacturing runs. One of their starting pitchers from last year just had surgery too. Like I said, the Giants have some prospects but thats all they are is prospects. They need a season to develop at the major league level.

The point is that while their record so far this season is, I will give you, just short of horrendous, they could make a comeback. Unless you possess some psychic powers and a crystal ball that allows you to see into the future, you cannot doom anyone (even San Francisco) to failure without absolute knowledge of the results of the season which cannot be obtained (again, unless you have a crystal ball or something like that, and even if you did it still wouldn???t command any sort of credibility.)
Essentially, because you cannot predict the future you cannot say that SF is about to begin another loosing season because you cannot predict with absolute certainty how the season will turn out.
(although it is an extremely strong possibility that they are going to be horrible)

I possess no phychic powers, all I have to go on are the facts. Instead of rambling about how I dont have a crystal ball, why dont you put some facts into your argument. All the facts point to a losing season. There is not one single fact that would support your position.
Pitching is another issue with the Giants. Barry Zito is the ace and he had a pre-season ERA of over 4. Giving up over 4 runs per nine innings + producing very little runs to speak of = losing season.
The Bullpen is an issue with the giants this year too. They dont have a closer. They're still using Brad Hennessey to fill that spot. He had an era of about 3.00 last year. A good closer usually has an ERA of under 3.00. The rest of the Bullpen is shakey too. There are about two pitchers out of 8 relief pitchers who I would consider decent relief pitchers. Those pitchers are: Brian Wilson and Merkin Valdez. In order to provide the starters with adequet relief this year they need alot more than two decent relievers. Based on the fact that the bullpen is shakey, I expect alot of games to be lost late in the ball game after the starter has been removed from the game. That is exactly what I saw in pre-season.

Its a good thing to hear that you dont think you have a crystal ball or anything like that. And i have presented you with one solid fact that undermines everything that you have said: you can't see the future! YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN! why not use your brain for a change and realise that. you say that: "I possess no phychic powers, all I have to go on are the facts". But the facts here are irrelevant! your argument is solely based on the notion that SF has no chance of recovery! BASED ON THE PAST! the past is the past, not the present (take that to heart). you state that there are no facts to support my position yet the facts that YOU use are irrelevant. You made an idiotic statement and i gave you a responce equitible to that. Your statement assumes that there is no chance for a miricle (ever heard of the RED SOX? HOW BOUT THE ANGELS? etc.) I give you that SF's stats suck, and badly. BUT that does not negate the fact that they have a chance of accomplishing something... like: WIN. your statement boldly proclaims that SF will not win this season, but for all you know(clearly very little), the other teams could screw up too!
that's a ridiculous argument the yngster's opponent uses. It is very rare (almost never) that on this site we are debating only what we know. And typically if we know something then there is no use in debating it. We debate opinions. I'm not sure he even has any on this subject.

Report Offensive CommentYou said I am making statements based on the past? I am making statements based on the teams performance at this point in time. My statistics are not from last year, they are from a few weeks ago. Obviously, you have never seen sportscenter on ESPN because they do the same thing I have done. They look at the pre-season to get a feel for how the team is preforming going into the regular season.

This has absolutely NOTHING to do with politics. Doesn't matter. Because it's all about the REDDDD SOX<3
