In the likely event that Barack Obama and John McCain get their party's nomination for President, they should agree to not have running mates, and to have the general election loser be Vice President (like in the old days).
Though Obama is a fairly liberal Democrat and McCain a fairly conservative Republican, both have an appeal that transcends their voting records.
Both represent themselves both as capable of leading a more civil and productive political conversation and inspiring young people to commit themselves to the public good.
For all their obvious stylistic, ideological, and generational differences, both are anti-politicians whose fundamental argument is that our system is broken in ways that only they are capable of fixing.
All you really need to decide is, are you a McBama/ObCain supporter or a fan of ObCain/McBama?

lovejones is apparently the first and only Mime Elephant-Donkey debater. I'm not persuaded by his argument or the manner in which he presents it, but I honor him for his courageous choice.
The original way of selecting the President and Vice-President was to have the top vote-getter be the President and 2nd-most top vote-getter be Vice President. (See the U.S. Constitution, Article II, Section 1).
The Constitution was written before political parties were big players. The writers perhaps naively believed that all Americans would always have the good of the nation in mind rather than seeking partisan advantage.
The current process of electing the our nation's top executives, President and Veep, by party does not serve this nation well. My proposal would once again bring some semblance of balance to the executive office.

I am not a mime lol I pushed the wrong button and it sent them message even though I didn't type anything. My opinion about your argument is that it could never work, they have totally different ideas and want to go into two totally different directions. If this were to happen it would do nothing but cost confusion between the two, and the government. The semblance of balance is the reason why the congress exsist, and why the president has advisors. As far as your comment on the founding fathers and political parties. They new political parties would come George Washington talks about it in his Farewell Address. The first political party came around in the late 1700s.

Due to your accident then, out of a sense of fairness and just plain laziness, I will not post a final argument. Instead of 3 posts each, we will get each get two. Your turn Mr. lovejones (AKA E-D's Speaking Mime).
And whatever you do, don't accidentally hit "Forfeit the Face Off" instead of the "Submit Argument" button. That red button -- don't push it. No, no, no -- keep your mouse away from that one...its the other one you want! That's right, the other one.

I am not a he I am a she, a she that has not had internet for the past few days. I didn't push the red button, but I think Hadrian should because really this is a irrelevant debate. It does not even make since. Two people who have two extremely different ideas of bringing a country together and making it a better place, could never work together. Nothing would get done.
"lovejones is apparently the first and only Mime Elephant-Donkey debater. I'm not persuaded by his argument or the manner in which he presents it, but I honor him for his courageous choice. " - Ten stars, buddy. Are we using stars?

Report Offensive CommentLets see if this gifted Mime comes back for his turn at round two. Too often these debates turn into something like a Samuel Beckett play, "Waiting for Debater".

Report Offensive CommentIamFry: Stars? No we are using VOTES! (Hadrian jumps up and down and points at the red box with white text that says VOTE). Try VOTING...its fun and easy.

Report Offensive CommentWe need to reach out to the Mime community. For too long their voice has been unheard in the political process. If I come in first in the votes, I'm make lovejones my VP of debates...

Report Offensive CommentThe Iraqi war and the Bush legacy which McCain is prepared to protect at all cost will be a problem for Obama and the Dems. It will be a political suicide for Obama to get on to that bus because its going the wrong route. They couldn't even agree on what they would say if the 3am phone call at the white house rang, in fact, McCain would let it ring. I believe there is only one clear choice, its Hillary. She has consistently set the trend on this race. 1. She came up with the Iraqi withdrawal strategy which all candidates except McCain followed. 2. The environmental stand she took was unprecedented, 3. The economic approach is detailed better than any other, 4. Health plan has no match, 5. and the 3am advert was her's and everyone is now jumping on the band wagon. Lets just say, we've just found ourselves a President already. Its Hillary.
