There is no more imperfect aspect of our electoral system than our indulgence of two irrelevant states' declarations that they should go first when it comes to determining the fitness of a Presidential candidate. Let's hold five regional primaries.

But then who'd address the pressing ethanol and healthcare issues? Presidential politics is already about big-ticket issues that don't actually change very much from administration to administration... at least having primaries in these small states means that the candidates are forced to speak to something beyond abortion and gay marriage.
GRUFF MCGRUFF said 11/15, 10:35 PM
Actually, abortion and gay marriage come up mostly in Iowa and NH. A series of regional primaries would allow--and I'm stereotyping here--the bible belt to probe a candidate's religious views, the southwest to focus on immigration, the midwest to demand cogent farm policy, etc. True, there'd still be an unfair emphasis on the region that goes first, but why not rotate them, and make sure the GOP and DEMS go in reverse order. The only reason not to do this is because it makes so much damn sense.

It isn't a question of What IS best...WHO GETS TO DECIDE THAT?!!?...One thing we can be happy about this cycle...NO ONE predicted what has occured...JUST for that reason and ever present possibility leave this one system alone...AT ANY TIME ANY STATE/ ANY ISSUE can turn the whole thing against the PARTY MACHINE PRE-ORDAINED CHOICES...it IS just this sort of chaos that makes the evil genius lawyer politicians NOT be able to control it...NOT YET ANYWAY...PLEASE GOD ENOUGH OF bush clinton bush

Report Offensive CommentI think Regional Primaries are a good idea if they are every few weeks so people have time to campaign. Having so many on Feb 5th was to Hillary's advantage. She excpect to win by then because there was no way for Barack to go everywhere in the one week from SC to Feb 5th . Well we've seen what happened when she didn't win. Clearly she was not prepared for Feb 6th.

Ah the beauty of the chaos is perfect...This is why our system is the best...it begs to ask the question what if and gets people involved..if you want the change then promote it and pursue it..don't just talk about it. But, expect some resistence along the way..it's hard to get some people to change their colors.
