Conservatives say the liberal media is undishonored and biased. Liberals say the government lies to get us to go to war and to take away our civil liberties.
Lets stop the arguing and agree. Both the media and government lie.
But when governments lie, people die. When the media lies, they just sell more newspapers.
I prefer to have more trees cut down than to have more bodies in our military cemeteries.

The media does not lie it manipulates the truth. the government does not rarely lies and in the past 8 years most of the lies have been from George Bush, his cabinet, and the Republican majority. i prefer to listen to the people in our goverment with integrity, not the media who currupt the news and feed of personal tramma, not to metion the accidental mistakes of polititions. It is usually the media who makes the politiions look luke liers.

4000 brave men & women are now dead in Iraq because of one of those "rare lies" of the government.
5 years into a war of choice, not necessity, where are these "people in our government with integrity" They have not yet spoken out against "the lies...from George Bush, his cabinet, & the Republican majority", the lies that got 4000 people killed
The media "manipulates the truth"? No..the media is manipulated by the government. How else did this Administration spread its lies that got us into war?
The conventional rules of journalism divide the world into Democrats & Republicans, liberals & conservatives & allow journalists to pretend they have done their job if, instead of reporting the truth behind the news, they merely give each side an opportunity for spin. These "rules of the game" permit government officials to set the agenda for journalism, leaving the press all too often simply to recount what officials say instead of subjecting their words & deeds to critical scrutiny. As one leading media analyst says "if the government isn't talking about it, we don't report it."
In condemning only the media, you miss these larger truth about the government's lies.

All of what you are saying has merit. There are many true elements to it. I do understand what you are saying, it does make sense, but many people in congress are truthful and honorable. Pennsylvania's great senator Arlen Spector, a man fighting dangerous cancer for the second time, has almost always been a messenger of Truth to his people in the Keystone State and to the great people all across this nation. Furhtermore, on the other side I will agree with you one hundred percent. The Bush administration has minipulated the press, but also congress, and the American people.
Finally, The war in Iraq was a lie by George Bush, a horrible lie, but it is not all of the government's fault. Most democrats in congress where lied to in a time of seseptability (the republicans at that time believed anything GRW said. There is some truth to your argument there. More-so, the Supreme Court and the majority of the courts below have done their best to do an honest job.
Now, in conclusion I would say that the Bush Administration has lied, a lot, but that doesn't mean all the men and women in the government lie.
I ampologize for the poor grammer, I was writting quickly. Also, I am a poor speller.

Hadrian, I think you're smart and your posts are often poignant, insightful and funny. But this time I'm just voting for you because I can't stand when people cannot use (anything close to) proper English in their arguments.
