Anyone who has earned such medals as the bronze star, the silver star, the DSC (distinguished service cross) the medal of honor etc. should have a special pension plan because of their great service to their country. If they were killed in action in a military conflict (not nescesarily the conflict that they were awarded the medal) their families should get the pension for a set ammount of time. this country needs to show more support for its troops, especially it's war heroes. If we do not recognize these people especially, then the medal only means something for as long as you wear it on your chest. If the government pays SSgt. Joe Smith (hypothetical name) who was awarded the silver star for valor, he gets to wear the medal, and he always is recognized by his government for his prestigous service.

As much as i like to think that every member of our military is in the military purely for the love of their country, that is not true in all cases. not every one of our troops is a chesty puller or a tony zinni, and even though many rise to the occasion during combat, some fold under pressure. a good pension may be the motivating factor for more heroism on the battlefield, and if it saves combat lives, i am most definetly for it. It also makes it so that if SSgt joe smith is killed saving 12 of his marines, and he gets the medal of honor, his family will be covered by the pension. the pension will have to be big however. it will need to cover a decent percent of the cost of living. it can't be $12 a month and a cupon to surf taco.

So this will end in a tie
Sure, I'm for it; and, since a pension has become the holy grail of employment, it may persuade more young people to serve so that the armed forces don't have to take people who are legally retarded.

IIRC (though this info may be only in certain cases) spouses (and kids, but maybe not for life) are covered for life if your husband/wife is kia.
