I do understand that the early day republican party was founded for the soul purpose of freeing the slaves, but their morales and values have changed a great deal since that time, and i think that you bringing it up in your debate with Populist is completely irrelivant.

first off i did specify i said that in TODAY'S republican party it does not matter what the EARLY REPUBLICANS (1850s-1860s). I even gave a year! Listen, if you want to do what you always do (look for loopholes and attack them) then be my guest, but if you want to have a real debate BRING THE HEAT!!!

Fine, the past is important in deciding the future. It can determine a persons or party's morals! ex-You murdered someone 40 years ago.... you are still a bad person. I know the Republican party has grown and changed, but the principals on which it was founded are still the same. Republicans still want to spread freedom. I know Abe Lincoln wanted to ship all the freed slaves back to Africa but he still wanted them free. Freedom is still a basic principal of the Republican party and it always will be!

1st there are pleanty of stories of people who killed people but fifty years later they turn out to be great people (because they used the fact that they killed someone as a basis to repay society!)
Second: Look at the basis that communism was founded on. Now look at all the communist countries that follow that guidline. See how a group of peoples morals and values can change over a period of time!! In conclusionm, the i will restate my initial arguement with some supporting details

A. The morals and values of that republican party (and you know what time period i am reffering to Miss Loophole) are different than those of today
B. Slavery is no longer an issue in the U.S. (Racism is but slavery isn't)

Yes, the may be different views, but it is the same principals! Freedom!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Liberty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Justice!!!!!!!!!!! All of those things have been republican principals since the begining and still are today! Slavery is an example of those principals applied to the real world!!!!

Abe Lincoln was also opposed to making citizens of the black community, but a beginning based on morals and principles continues into todays base of morals and principles.

We are not in a party purely out of name. If Republicans did something good in the past does not mean I should be in the Republican party. We are in a party currently based on what the current views are. The past views especially the views of more than 140 years ago are definitely irrelevant. Only thing that is relevant is the views that are CURRENTLY expressed by a party.

GOPDIVA: your arguements are based on the cliche that your particular party is based on the principals that all americans believe in. you have very little fact, and you don't win an arguements by capitalizing as many letters as possible and using multiple exclamation points.
