i think this will be an interesting rematch, gopdiva :) I think that the United States should have a Universal Healthcare program. First, I will attack the current State of the Healthcare.
- Half of every health care dollar is spent on administrative costs.
- Many businesses are having trouble because they have to pay for all of their worker's health care.
- America spends the highest amount of GDP on healthcare than any other nation in the world, yet we only have the 37th best in the world.
- 1 out of 7 Americans are uninsured
Now some positive stuff!
- Universal Health Care would be much cheaper in the long run because more preventive care could take place if everything was coordinated on a national level
- Quality would increase because doctors would no longer be guranteed patients based on a provider network regardless of quality; they would have to earn patients.
- Wastefullness and inefficiency in general would be reduced.
Finally, everyone should have the same health care, from Congressmen to dish washers. It is a basic human right. The United States is the only industrialized, wealthy nation that does not provide universal health care.

New York and California are in debt! This was caused by HEALTHCARE!!!! In some cases healthcare fraud is at 20%! Initiating it would BANKRUPT THE COUNTRY!!! Medicare and Social Security are set to go bankrupt! I am not completely against socialized healthcare, but I doubt it would work! Canada is getting rid of a portion of their socialized healthcare system. It is costing the government too much to manage, so they are going back to insurance companies. (they are not getting rid of it, just changing the format! I have heard Obama and Clintons plans! I don't think it will work. Maybe lowering the medicare age slowly could work. I JUST DON'T WANT AMERICA TO GO BANKRUPT!!!!!!!!
Woah, big claims in the "positive stuff", none of which is usually true in a federalized system.

Report Offensive CommentIt's going to reach the point where if we DON'T get victimized by voter fraud against the usual suspects, we'll consider that more of a defeat than actually losing by a vote count. At least others are coming around and seeing the evidence for themselves.

Report Offensive CommentEngland has Universal health care... and its not working for there small country why would it work for ours? People have to wait months to get Organ Transplants... the waiting list is so long i can't even imagine what it would be like over here. In fact I have heard alot of stories of people paying to fly to the united states to get organ transplants because of universal healthcare making the waiting list so long. Point being if there was universal healthcare the quality of our healthcare would most likely go down and most would end up being worse of instead of better.

Report Offensive Comment1) Economics are simple. The country only has so much capacity for medical care. Our system of dealing with who gets treated is whether or not you can afford to pay for it (or have a third party willing to take the risk). In most cases where there is a large government running the healthcare system, they have to determine how to allocate the resources in whatever 'equitable' way they see fit. Most cases, it goes off of a 'needs' analysis, which means that people end up dying on waiting lists because their procedure was not a high priority for three years until it is life threatening. 2) Populist claims that half of every dollar is spent on administrative costs, but he never once claims how putting the government in charge (or a much larger role) will alleviate that problem. The U.S. government spews out the most useless paperwork per capita than the rest of the world. Tell me how the efficiency masters in the government can bring down those costs (rather than re-distributing the costs over more people) and maybe I'll vote for you.

Report Offensive CommentPopulist, I think that the U.S. should have a watered down form of universal healthcare (only for those who cant afford it) but i am mostly voitng for you because gopdiva is an abnoxious brat who needs to be put in her place (i am surprised she hasn't attacked the loopholes in your statements.

Report Offensive CommentWhat is funny is that those who don't need healthcare to get treatment, upper-middle class (professionals...) and upper class, will be the ones paying for it. Life, liberty and the persuit of happiness are the basic rights. NOT life, liberty and universal healthcare.
