Political Parties Will Be The Downfall Of America

There are 2 main political parties, donkeys and elephants but this system will lead to total failure. I challenge the belief that we should have 2 main political parties because if one party was elected majority in the senate, the house and as president, this would destroy the system of checks and balances and would allow the majority party to pass what ever laws they want for 2 years. I believe there should be a third political party.

Right now as it stands, the political partys are forced to stand against each other on every aspect. (pro-war or against eg.) If the donkeys were asked what color the sky was they would reply, black. The elephants would then counter that statement stating that the sky is in fact white. The independents might throw a few crazy colors in there like macaroni yellow (the crayon color) but no party would state the accualy color.

Washington was against the idea of politcal parties and accually choose a republican and a democrat as his advisors. (Jefferson and Hamilton). Please excuse my really bad spelling.

First off, you site Washington with his advisors as an example. Go get a history book and look at how that turned out. Those men could not agree on anything. Jefferson actually left office because of the disagreements between the two. You have it backwards too, Hamilton would be the modern Republican and Jefferson the Democrat.
Noone forces the parties to stand against each other, though it is inevitable. Ever since the American Revolution there have been factions wanting, in that case, war and the USA or staying with Britain.
The system of two parties does provide checks-and-balances but we do need to come to an agreement, or some sort of middle ground. The Dems. need to back off on the Bush-bashing and the Repubs. need to stand behind their president. We elected him after all.Look at the first term of Bush, everything got done, but now the Dems. are so far against Bush and Bush won't concede anything with them that nothing gets done in the Senate.
The parties will not be the downfall of America because throughtout history there have been political parties and we came out of, for example: The War of 1812, The Civil War, The Spanish-American War, WW 1, The Depresssion, WW 2, ect

I didn't say consectatively, and because Washington united them (whether they liked it or not) they are the founding fathers of our country. It was Hamilton who wanted to build a central bank and Jefferson strictly disagreed. Washinton was the one who settled this and desided with Hamiliton. We need a political party that has the views of both parties.

First: They are the Founding Fathers because they broke from Britain, not because they were in Washington's cabinet.
Second: Washington was the odd man out, he had no political views that particualarily leant to one side or the other.
Third: The central bank was only one part of the argument. It's states rights versus a strong central government. The issue was whether the US gov't had the power to create it or not.

Back in the present, there are always going to be two or more sides of a view. It is not just because the Dems and the Repubs don't want to agree, it is also because they stand fro differnet things. There will always be a minority. Look at some major issues: gay marriage(illegal, legal, civil unions ...), abortion(illegal, legal, regulated, no past a certain date, only for **** victims...), War in Iraq(stay in, pull out now, gradually pull out...), Healthcare(mandatory, privledge, gov't should help, those who can afford it shouldn't have to pay for those who can't...)
It will NEVER happen. There are too many sides to issues.

(consecutively, Washington, Hamilton, sided not desided, Founding Fathers)
What about consecutively?

I'd like to comment that I have seen your past agruements and that I am disappointed that I have to go against you. I usually always vote for you in other arguements because I sided with your views and thought that you have made the best agruements in many face offs. I thought I was going to face off against a person who was unintelligent. Also the political parties have changed so much other the years (like the wigs)

But then the bank was dissolved and there was an economic crisis, so it didn't really work out all that well!

Another president, Jackson, let the central bank's charter expire. He who considered states rights over a strong central gov't. It was then re-chartered. Thank you mimi by the way. And sorry, I just love history and will debate any point of it with anyone. But really, the Repubs. can be directly linked to Hamilton's group, wtill some of hte same views like a strong frderal gov't. The Dems. believe in individual liberties, much like Jefferson and his followers.

The problem isn't which party did wrong in the past they both failed miserably at actually running the country. We are continually forced to vote for the lesser of evils rather than good vs bad. We need to have other parties involved in the races in all aspects to force the major parties to commit to doing anything but fail again. And to bring light to bad policy and deceptive practices as well as the pork-barrel free-for-all. When Ross Peroit ran he may have been a bit of a wacko but he forced issues to be discussed and debates to be something more than the recital of platitudes. We can all look up the history of politics at our leisure it is the future we need to be thinking about. 3rd parties may not stand much chance of wining but every party that qualifies in all 50 states should be included in every debate so that real questions will get real answers. Only then will we be able to see the actual intentions. It would also be a good idea to make all candidates run from a mutual tax funded account so that the offices are elected rather than bought. This should be funded by cutting government waste. Maybe it should start with taking all of the perks from government employees from President down to local levels. If they had to buy their own gas, drive their own cars, pay for their ???retreats??? and depend on Social Security for their retirements they wouldn???t spend our money like juvenile delinquents with stolen credit cards.
